District resident Alvin Halmon-Daniels, now 18, was charged as an adult for armed carjacking and other offenses in connection to the June 2023 carjacking of a woman's vehicle in Northeast DC.
He was 17 at the time.
According to court documents, at approximately 11:20 am on June 16 last year, an unidentified co-conspirator drove his car in front of the woman's sedan in the 200 block of 13th Street NE.
It is alleged that Halmon-Daniels got out of the car, armed with a handgun, and ordered the woman to leave her property and get out of her car. Halmon-Daniels then drove off with the vehicle and property, with his cohort following in tow.
Officers from the Metropolitan Police Department responded immediately, officials said, and tracked the carjacked vehicle to Southeast DC, where it had crashed, and apprehended Halmon-Daniels nearby, still with some of his victim's items in his pockets.
The victim subsequently identified Halmon-Daniels as the gunman.
Halmon-Daniels was charged with robbery while armed, and two counts of possession of a firearm during a crime of violence. He was released after his preliminary hearing, pending trial, despite prosecutors' protestations.
